What is a science thriller? You mean like a Michael Crichton novel?

Sort of. His novels all feature science run amok, and the heroes strive to defeat the results of science and get the world back to normal. I don't see science as inherently good or bad, it just provides the setting and/or device to drive the plot. It's the people who are good and bad.

Think of a John Grisham novel, but instead of lawyers and courtrooms, my novels have scientists and laboratories.

So why are you writing science thrillers? What, fantasy/mysteries aren't enough?

I'm a scientist and an educator at heart (and for a living). I've always wanted to help raise the level of science knowledge, and I think weaving it into novels can be a good way to do it. Plus, there are many cool things going on, and I want to share them with the world. Or at least my mom if I can't get published.

Plus, I like to read lots of genres and I get ideas for all of them. Why limit myself to one? Writing in one helps keep my writing fresh in the others.

I'm convinced, what do you have in the way of a novel?

I'm currently editing a biotech thriller called Viral Coat. The story deals with a bioengineered virus, which isn't the most original idea, but the way I do it should keep you interested.

I also have been plotting up another one that will deal with quantum mechanics and consciousness. Once I finish editing Viral Coat, I'll begin writing.
