January 2006

January is here and I'm still writing the first draft of Viral Coat. My day job had me on the road a lot, so I didn't get as much done as I hoped. That's the bad news, the good news is that it is shaping up well. And over Christmas, I came up with some good ideas to a follow-up novel.

With the new year, comes New Year's resolutions, and I've resolved to get published this year. I'm also warming up to the idea of taking a more guerilla approach and doing something like Cory Doctorow (give out the electronic version for free and use it as marketing). My brother will be happy, but not super happy until I release it as a serialized Podcast. Doctorow's site is pretty interesting and he has lots of ideas about publishing:

I'm also going to change the website up some, including adding a forum. I want to link the blog in better, so I can make more small updates and comments about interesting tidbits I find.

The big tidbit recently is that the big hurdle nowadays for becoming a famous author is getting your book noticed amongst all the other books, games, tv, movies, etc. So this year I'll be trying to spread the word. I need your help too, so if you want to read a beta version of A Clockwork Murder, let me know. In return I'll ask you to let your friends know about it and send me some feedback (quotable remarks are a plus).

Happy New Year!
