Newsletter August 2009
Hello everyone,
July was another fun month out here. We successfully moved and unpacked, and now we are settling in (i.e. buying new carpets and furniture, fixing the little things around the house, etc.). One day, we'll have a dining room table. But for now, I finally have a grill again, so I'm happy.
In the writing arena, I managed to make progress on the plot outline of the joint novel. I have the first third done, and I've started composing the new sections. In doing so, I made an interesting discovery: I'm hooked on dictation. I've written the last two or three novels via dictation software on my computer and now I have a hard time composing while typing. I can still do it, but as I'm writing I think to myself: this would be so much faster if I dictated it. I guess I need to start getting up early again so I can dictate before everyone gets up.
In other writing news, some friends and I have started a blog about computer gaming. There are a million of those, but ours focuses on gaming for people who don't have a lot of free time. I've been trying to get something up each week. It is fun to do some more journalistic/editorial style writing. Of course I'm too lazy to do much fact checking (it is all for fun) so I guess it could be called fiction, but hey, whatever floats my boat. If you are interested, the site is http://www.multiplaying.net and I go by the handle "Winin".
I've done a lot of flying lately, so I've done a lot of reading. Mostly I've been catching up with James Rollins thrillers and Jim Butcher's urban fantasy series. Both writers are good, especially if you are looking for fun, fast-paced stories for summer reading.
Have fun! --Todd
